Chemical Peels

Superficial Procedure Peels are a simple, non invasive cosmetic procedure. A peel treatment involves degreasing the face and then the application of a peel best suited to your skin type. A mild stinging/itching sensation occurs as the peel self neutralizes on the skin. This may last up to half an hour.

Benefits of Superficial Procedure Peels

Peels increase cellular turnover and renew old sallow skin, therefore improving hydration, skin texture, pigmentation and reducing pore size. The procedure takes approximately 20-30 minutes. A course of peels may be recommended dependant on the skin condition.

Types of Peel
  • The L-lactic acid Peel promotes shedding of superficial skin cells and stimulates new cellular growth. L-lactic acid is a water binding acid. It is attracted to the moisture content of surface skin cells and is therefore a great peel for increasing skin hydration. This results in a reduction of fine lines and improvement in overall skin tone and texture.
  • Salicylic Acid Peels (BHA) are attracted to the oily content of skin, particularly sebum found predominantly in follicles. The peel helps to regulate cellular turnover and shed unwanted cellular material. This helps to unclog pores, reducing blackheads and pimples.
  • TCA peels (trichloroacetic acid) have traditionally been used as a medium to deep chemical peeling agent. TCA aids in gentle exfoliation and is great for sensitive sun-damaged skin. It is also helps re-establish the fine capillary network damaged by ultraviolet radiation resulting in sallow skin. Clinically, the benefits can be seen as a restoration of normal, healthy skin tone and texture.
  • Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) is a mild peeling agent ideally suited for use on darker skin (Fitzpatrick Skin Types IV to VI). Performed regularly, the Ascorbic Acid Peel can help resolve uneven pigmentation and provide exfoliation benefits for more reactive skin types.
  • Retinoic Acid Peel is a prescription-only peel comprising Vitamin A. It is used to correct signs of sun damage, improve mild scarring and smooth fine wrinkles. It also decreases pigmentation and unclogs pores which will reduce breakouts.
  • Pyruvic Acid Peels are great for sundamaged and pigmented skins. Minimal discomfort is felt. Best results are achieved through a course of peels.
Possible Side Effects
  • Side effects can include hypo-pigmentation and hyper-pigmentation.
  • Redness, swelling, itchiness, scarring, infection and acne breakouts.

Regular use of a zinc based sunscreen is mandatory post any peel procedure.
